We all have them. Kaitlin's most recent one is Natalie's loud chewing. She can't stand it! Natalie knows this and uses it to annoy her sister. Lately Natalie has been eating her breakfast in the car on the way to school and this has become a daily battle.
Natalie starts eating and Kaitlin starts wiggling in her seat, after a couple of minutes, she gives Natalie a gentle reminder to please close her mouth. This reminds Natalie that Kaitlin does not like to hear her chew, and then the battle begins. Natalie initially complies, but then little by little starts getting louder and louder, Kaitlin's irritation starts rising, so she yells at Natalie to close her mouth, and this goes on over and over during the 15 minutes drive to school.
I try to distract Kaitlin, I turn on the radio, nothing works. Sadly, I completely understand her, I hate it too! We have a couple family members that do this and it totally drives me nut. You know, the harder you try to ignore the smacking, wet mushy noise, the louder it becomes. It becomes pure agony at times.
This is becoming such a big issue, I'm looking for ways to change the morning routine a little bit to avoid it because we are all starting our day in a very bad note. I've started waking Natalie up a little earlier so she can eat at home rather than in the car, I remind her frequently to close her mouth while eating. Most of the times she is pretty receptive, but if Kaitlin is around and she notices she is bugging her with it, all is lost.
Do you think our family could think up of more ways of being intense? Can you believe it? You know how they say in the house of the shoemaker the children always go without shoes? Well, in our case, in the house of the psychologist the family is going nuts.

wow i'm so on you with that one... it's like lately there's a plague of loud chewers everywhere i go. I haven't found a solution but way too funny!
Como me he reido=) Me recuerda las peleas con mi hermano!
Hey -- I didn't know you had a blog! How great to find a fellow kindred blogger!
And, too funny to read this, because Kristen cannot stand to hear people chew. She often has to go sit at the bar, away from the table because the other kids drive her nuts. No wonder her and Kaitlin get along so well! Wait...I hope this is not Kristen's fault. Or maybe Kaitlin started it?
